History

We are famous worldwide for formulations that we offer. Always working hard to deliver customers with most reliable gamut of PU RoofKoat, Under Coating Bio Washes, etc. The journey started when a young color chemist, Mr. Lewis Berger, decided to start the operation of our holding company in Europe. At the time, the company was manufacturing ‘Prussian Blue’, which was unique, it was made using special blue color. It was hard to work with that specific pigment, but our founder perfected it with his innovative techniques and in-depth knowledge of the sector.

The journey of our India based company started back in 1923 from Howrah (West Bengal), we soon became a popular name, renowned as British Paints (India) Limited. In 1965, the holding company was acquired by a USA based company named ‘Celanese Corporation’, the Indian subsidary was later on acquired by CELURO NV, a Holland based subsidiary of Celanese.

Later on in 1969, the ‘Celanese Corporation’, sold its acquired shares to Berger, Jenson & Nicholson, U.K. Owing to this, the British Paints (India) Ltd. became the part of Berger group. In 1973, many innovative and quality focused advancements were made in the enterprise. In 1976, it was evaluated that the sale portion of he foreign holding company has diluted to below 40%, of a portion of shares that were owned by UB Group, which was at time controlled by Mr. Wittal Mallya. Finally, the name of the company was changed to Berger Paints India Limited in 1983. Following years, we expanded our reach and diversified our range to cater to the varied demands of our clients.
